My name is Jean Buffong. I first went to The Gambia ten years ago. In 1999 I was introduced to the Day Care Nursery in the village of Bulock. Since then I have worked relentlessly to help improve the quality of life however I can. So far I have raise funds for improved school buildings, erecting concrete boundaries around the school perimeter, assist the teachers to attend training college, and most important
FEED THE CHILDREN.
Bulock Village is 66 Kilometres from Banjul, Capital of The Gambia, West Africa.
Bulock Day Care Nursery structure:
4 class rooms and a store house
316 children between the ages 2 and 7
4 teachers (including the headteacher) , 4 cooks, 4 attendants - all volunteers
The nursery is basically financed through the monthly contribution of about £0.50p, which because of the level of poverty some parents cannot afford. It is from this contribution that the staff who are virtually volunteers are sometimes given some token amounts of about £20 - £25 at month’s end.
My most recent visit, July 2007, highlighted the need for basic sanitary requirements. There are NO proper toilet facilities.
I am asking your support to help provide toilets for the children.
Estimated cost of 2 toilet blocks is £1500
