The Innocent Mother that Sparked the Brixton 1985 Uprising
TruLee Entertainment and Lee Lawrence, the son of Cherry Groce, the innocent mother gunned down by police in 1985 triggered a spate of national uprising, will host a black history month ceremony and showcase in memory and tribute to her life. Cherry although paralyzed from the waist down, continued to be an inspiration to many and was actively the centre piece of her family. Unfortunately on Easter Sunday this year she passed away with her family by her bedside. As a result of the injuries sustained from the shooting.
The event will include a short play called ‘HerStory’ written by Lorna Gayle featuring a variety of top actors from stage and TV, followed by dances, poets and singers. The following personalities are also looking forward to paying tribute to this unsung hero;
Levi Roots, Starboy Nathan, Peter Hunningale, Lorna Gee, Geoff Shuman, Kwaku, Don-E, Floetic Lara, Roger Samuels, Amen Noir, True Identity and the Maat Dance Movement. The combination of performances aims to provides an informative, enjoyable and exciting evening.
