Black Panther: Emory Douglas and the Art of Revolution

30 October 2008 – April 2009

images copyright by Emory Douglas

Groundbreaking US graphic artist Emory Douglas is responsible for producing a powerful visual record of the Black Panther movement and of the US civil rights movement of the 1960s and 1970s. Emory Douglas is exhibiting his work for the first time in the UK at Urbis in Manchester this October

Official artist for the Black Panther Party, Emory will be showing the posters, cartoons and campaign pamphlets which challenged the huge racial inequalities prevalent at the time. Emory Douglas’ provocative art challenging police discrimination, politicians and presidents, will also chime with observers of the current White House race that could result in the first black President of the USA.

Sun – Wed 10 am – 6 pm , Thurs – Sat 10 am – 8 pm, Urbis, Manchester
