In Haringey the majority of children waiting to be adopted are black or of mixed-heritage. Without adoption these children face years in care. Imagine how it would feel to be able to give them a permanent home.
To find out more about the adoption process and what it entails come along to Wood Green Library High Road Wood Green N22 on 15 May 5.30pm-7pm. To book your place or find out more about the evening please call 020 8489 3309.
There will be an opportunity to talk to social workers, refreshments will be provided. The closest tube station is Wood Green. Adopting a Child
What is adoption?
Adoption is giving a child a new and permanent family because they cannot be brought up by their own parents. If you adopt a child you become the childs legal parent/s.
Who can apply?
You can apply to adopt if you are:
Married, single or living with a partner
Gay or straight
Living in rented accommodation or own your own home (as long as you have a spare room)
What happens next?
An adoption social worker will contact you after your initial enquiry to let you know if we can take your interest in adoption further. We will then visit you to discuss adoption in more detail and help you with any further considerations you need to make before making a more formal application to us.

Lewis is a child of white Irish and African Caribbean- Jamaican heritage. He is a delightful, lively, engaging and active child who responds to lots of stimulation. He enjoys exploring his environment and likes playing with toys especially musical ones. He is a fun child and also looks forward to participating in out door activities including football

Jerome - October 2002.
He is an engaging boy who wants to play with other children but struggles in terms of his language development and social skills. He is waiting to be formally assessed as his development may fall within the milder end of the autistic spectrum. At the moment he plays alongside other children. He particularly enjoys sand and water play and small cars, trains and toy animals. He also wears glasses for a degree of poor vision.

Tyana - February 2006
Tyana is active, sociable, and healthy little girl who is meeting all her developmental milestones. She has a good appetite and likes most food, and she sleeps throughout the night. Her foster carer describes her as an adorable child with a good sense of humour who enjoys singing along to music and listening to stories.

Idman - August 2006
Idman who is of African/Somalian heritage was born in August 2006.
Idman is an alert happy baby who is full of laughter and meeting all of her developmental milestones.
She is in good health and responds well to routine. Her carers says that she is an engaging child who enjoys music and likes to dance.

Amadu: DOB 31/08/2004 and Adrial DOB 14/05/2006
Amadu and Adrial are full siblings of Gambian/Ghanaian heritage. They have lived together since Adrial was 2 months old and are very close to each other. They are rewarding to care for and need to be placed together in an adoptive family.
