“I have a dream”

An insider's account of the creation of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s famous speech that rallied a generation and galvanised the Civil Rights Movement.

“I have a dream”“I have a dream” When those words were spoken on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on August 28, 1963, in front of a quarter of a million people, it marked a turning point in history—not just for America, but for the world. As the crowd stood, electrified, Martin Luther King, Jr. brought the plight of African Americans to the public consciousness and firmly established himself as one of the greatest orators of all time. The speech is commonly regarded—along with the Gettysburg Address and FDR's Infamy Speech—as one of the finest in history.

Haiti cholera outbreak hits capital

The cholera outbreak in Haiti has reached the capital, Port-au-Prince, having killed more than 250 people across the country.
Five cases of the disease have been confirmed in the densely populated city, as health officials struggle to contain the disease, which has left 253 dead and thousands infected.

All five had travelled there from the worst affected Artibonite and Central areas, prompting the UN to stress that the outbreak, Haiti's first in this century, had not spread that far itself.

Mia Morris credit-Barbara-GreyThank you Mia... for your hard work on the Oral History Project (as part of our Documenting the Archive Project), Celebrating African-Caribbean Achievements and the unveiling of the Len Garrison's bronze bust event in Lambeth Town Hall. You have been magnificent, creating openings and connections and for continuously going the extra mile for the BCA. I got my box of magazines and I am hot at distributing already! My daughter's school celebrates Black History week this week and a lot of parents and teachers have been given copies. The administrator was so appreciative and suggested having someone talk to the kids about being proud of their heritage, we will see. My church celebrates it on the 17th and I will give them some copies. You guys are doing a fantastic job and I must say the Magazine does the black race proud.
