and community radio, environmental projects and capital grants

star Preventing Violent Extremism: Community Leadership Fund Guidance

This grant fund is intended to support work that will build the
capacity of individuals, organisations and communities to take the lead

on tackling violent extremist influences. There are five strands of
work, funding for the first four will be limited to projects which have

national reach / significance. Local projects can receive funding for
the fifth strand: Local forums against extremism and Islamophobia

There will be two funding rounds. Deadlines for applications are:

Grants of up to £15,000 for organisations working towards the
development of a social enterprise arm or trading activities.

ok Bursary scheme to attend Political Party Conferences

NCVO has launched a bursary scheme inviting smaller organisations (with

incomes of less than £500,000) to submit applications to attend one of

the three main Political Party Conferences.

star 2008/II UK Film Council Short Film Completion Fund

Producers or production companies are now invited to send a rough cut
of their unfinished short film to Maya Vision International, along with

a completed application form.

star Community Radio Fund (UK)

The Office of Communications (Ofcom) has launched the latest bidding
round under its Community Radio Fund. Under the fund, Community Radio
Stations are being invited to apply for funding to support their core
running costs. These can include, management; administration, financial

management & reporting costs, fundraising to support the station,
community outreach work and the costs involved in using volunteers.
There is no upper limit of grant that can be applied for, however, the
minimum grant is £5,000. Grants can only be made to community radio
licensees that are broadcasting under a community radio licence (and
not an RSL, for example). During the last bidding round the average
grant awarded was £13,365 and the maximum grant was £16,000.

ok Changes to Grants for the Arts

Area: England
Arts Council England will be making changes to the Grants for the Arts
programme that come into effect on 20 May 2008. Key differences are:

• Three new additions to the eligibility criteria;

• Changes to the application form; and

• Changes to how applications will be assessed.

The main focus of Grants for the Arts remains individuals and smaller
arts organisations, although larger organisations and regularly funded
organisations can still apply. Existing requirements for RFO
applications still pertain.

ok EUROPEAN UPDATES NOW ON ONE WEBPAGE!

EUCLID is pleased to announce the launch of euronews.culture.info, a
new online summary of key EU and European information covering
funding opportunities, deadlines, results of calls, reports, networks,
policies, events, etc. This webpage will be updated several times a
week by staff from EUCLID and from EFAH, the European Forum for Arts
and Heritage, who are a key European network based in Brussels.

**Funding for environmental projects and capital grants**

Natural England to Launch £25 Million Access to Nature Grants
Programme (England)

Natural England has announced that it is launching a new £25 million
Access to Nature grants programme. Under the scheme, Voluntary
and Community Organisations, Charities, Friendly Societies, Industrial and
Provident Societies, Charitable Trusts and the Public Sector will be
able to apply for grants of between 50,000 and £500,000 to encourage
people from all backgrounds to understand, access and enjoy the natural

environment. The scheme which is jointly funded by the Big Lottery
Fund's Changing Spaces programme and Natural England and will
focus on three broad themes; community awareness of and active participation
in the natural environment; education, learning and volunteering; and
creating welcoming, well-managed and wildlife-rich places. In addition
Natural England will make a small number of larger grants of over
£500,000 for projects that have a national significance.

Opening: It is anticipated that the Access to Nature Grant Scheme will
open for applications in late April 2008.

star Community Sustainable Energy Programme (England)

Not for profit organisations such as community groups, charities,
schools, colleges and faith groups, etc are being invited to apply for
funding to install renewable energy technologies (such as wind turbines

and solar panels) and energy saving measures (such as roof and cavity
wall insulation). Under the new Community Sustainable Energy programme
£8 million will be available for the installation of microgeneration
technologies and energy efficiency measures (Capital grants) and £1
million for project development grants.

Capital grants will be awarded on a competitive basis at quarterly
selection panel meetings. Project development grants (for studies
investigating the feasibility of installing any combination of the
technologies) will be awarded on a first-come first-served basis until
all funds are spent. The maximum Capital grant available is £50,000 or

50% of the project costs. The maximum project development grant is
£5,000 or 75 per cent of the study cost whichever is lower. The
Building Research Establishment on behalf of the Big Lottery Fund's
Changing Spaces Programme is managing the funding programme.

**Funding for groups working with young people**

star Funding Announced for Aimhigher Associates Scheme (England)

The Government has announced the provision of £21 million over three
years for a new national strand of widening participation activity in
the Aimhigher programme. Aimhigher is a national programme that aims to
widen participation in higher education (HE) by raising the aspirations
and developing the abilities of young people from under-represented
groups. The Aimhigher Associates scheme aims to support and
encourage learners aged 13-19, helping them through the various
academic and transitional milestones that they encounter from school
or college to higher education. For example, Aimhigher Associates will
help learners in the preparation and completion of the UCAS process.
Around 5,500 undergraduates will be recruited to provide long-term
support to more than 21,000 pupils between the ages of 13 and 19 in
schools and colleges across the country. Further information on the
scheme and opportunities to become involved in the pathfinder projects
will be made available later in April.

star Irish Youth Foundation (UK)

Organisations in the UK that work to improve the lives of Irish
children and young people are able to apply for funding of between
£500
and £25,000 (£5,000 in Northern Ireland). The Foundation supports a
wide range of activities including help for the homeless; employment
and training schemes; combating domestic violence and discrimination;
help for young offenders; and educational, cultural and social
activities, etc. Projects funded in the past include promoting Gaelic
Games to socially deprived young people in the West Midlands; promoting

play and youth provision for young Irish travellers and supporting
Irish Arts & Education programmes, etc. The Foundation provides funding

for a wide range of projects including; training/Counselling; drug
rehabilitation; advice/advocacy; youth work; family support;
homelessness; educational, cultural & social activities;
cross-community initiatives; travellers; and disability.

Open: Grant Application forms for funding in 2009 will be available for
downloading from Monday 6 October 2008. The deadline for submissions
will be Friday 5 December 2008

starHilton in the Community Foundation (UK)

Organisations that work with young people have the opportunity to apply

for grants of up to £50,000 per year through the Hilton Foundation.
During 2006, the Foundation made grants totalling over £1.3m to
numerous organisations including registered charities and schools for
activities and projects that meet one of the Foundation's three
chosen areas of focus; Young People Education; Young People Health;
and Disaster Relief and International Fund.

Closing date: Next closing date for applications is 6 May 2008 followed by 4 August 2008.

star Funding to Develop Media Skills for Disadvantaged Young People
(England)

Mediabox which offers disadvantaged 13 to 19 year olds the opportunity
to develop and produce creative media projects, using film, television,

print, radio or online platforms has announced that its Mid and Big
Mediabox funding programmes will re-open for applications on the 1st
April 2008. The scheme which is run by a consortium consisting of First

Light Movies, Media Trust, Skillset and the UK Film Council is for
young people to; express their own opinions, ideas and views, gain new
skills, encourage creativity, boost personal development and get their
voices heard. Through the Mid Mediabox grants of between £1,000 and
£20,000 are available to a wide range of public, private and third
sector organisations and groups with a strong track record of working
with young people to provide opportunities for young people to develop
creative ideas and lifelong skills in media production. The maximum
grant available through the Big Media Box scheme is £40,000.

Closing date: Two for applications in 2008: 29 April and 19 August.
